Under general supervision, performs corrective and preventative maintenance tasks on equipment and facilities used in water pumping stations, sewage lift stations, and wastewater treatment plants.

Examples of Duties
\n

  • \n
  • Performs corrective maintenance tasks on equipment associated with the operation of a wastewater treatment plant, sewage lift stations, and water pumping stations to include pumps, valves, electric motors, compressors, blowers, fans, electrical switch gear, and controls systems. \n
  • Performs preventative maintenance tasks on equipment, as specified by equipment manufacturers, to include oil changing, greasing, fluids reservoir checks, adjusting belts and chains, adjusting alignment of couplings and mountings, and cleaning filters and screens. \n
  • Assists the Chief Mechanic in documenting equipment maintenance history in the maintenance software by recording equipment run times, documenting replacement parts used for repairs, recording labor hours, and managing spare parts inventories. \n
  • Identifies and investigates causes of equipment failures by using specialty equipment, instruments, and tools to include volt/ohm meters, megohmmeters, signal generators, vibration analysis equipment, and thermometers. \n
  • Assists the Chief Mechanic in training new or less experienced Plant Mechanics or Maintenance Workers on how to troubleshoot elecrical circuits, troubleshoot and/or calibrate level indicators and flow meters, and install and maintain sewer metering equipment. \n
  • Supervises the work activities of subordinates to include assigning responsiblities, providing instruction on how to perform the task, and inspection of work once the task is complete. \n
  • Assists the Chief Mechanic in soliciting quotes for equipment purchase or repair and/or selecting and coordinating the work of general contractors hired to service or repair facilities and equipment. \n
  • Reviews graphs and charts on the SCADA system to determine if pumps and equipment are operating properly. Must have a working knowledge of the principles of operations at the different remote facilities for use in troubleshooting equipment malfunctions. \n
  • Assists in the general housekeeping of building interiors, building exteriors, treatment tanks, and other items as needed. \n
  • Informs supervisor of all problems, deviations, hazards, unfamiliar situations, and all work activities. \n
  • Assists with other special projects and tasks as directed. \n
  • Adheres to personnel, safety, and department policies and procedures. \n
  • Assists other coworkers as needed. \n
  • Performs other duties as assigned. \n \n
    Minimum Qualifications
    \n
    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
    \n
    • \n
    • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is required. \n
    • Must be able to complete and pass the written test for a valid Texas CDL \"B\" Driver's License with airbrakes and with proper endorsements within 90 days of hire. You must provide proof of your scheduled driving test appointment with the Texas Department of Public Safety to your supervisor within 90 days from the day you pass the written test. Your driving record must be in compliance with Town policy. \n \n
      EDUCATION:
      \n
      • \n
      • Must possess a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Class C Wastewater Operator's Certificate. \n
      • Must possess a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Class C Water Distribution certificate \n \n
        WORK EXPERIENCE:
        \n
        • \n
        • At least two years of water and wastewater equipment maintenance experience is required. \n \n
          Must submit to and pass a post-offer, non-regulated drug test and thorough background checks (including criminal history).
          \n
          Desired Qualifications
          \n
          KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:
          \n
          • \n
          • Must have an exceptional knowledge of pumps, compressors, blower, conveyors, motors, and other types of production equipment. \n
          • Specific knowledge with wastewater treatment plant, sewage lift stations, and high service pumping stations is required. \n
          • Must have skills in diagnosing mechanical and electrical failures by using specialty measuring instruments such as volt/ohm meters, megohmmeters, and ammeters. \n
          • Must be familiar with the basic principles of operations for different electric motor types and their associated electrical switch gear, and related control systems. \n
          • Must be able to read wiring diagrams and blueprints and be able to troubleshoot control circuits. \n
          • Must have good supervisory, problem solving, and training skills. \n
          • Must have basic computer operating skills. \n
          • Must be able to maintain an effective and pleasant working relationship with employees, contractors, and the general public. \n
          • Must be able to work extensive hours, various work shifts as needed, and respond within 30 minutes to an on-call or emergency callback. \n \n
            PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
            \n
            • \n
            • Must be able to talk, read, see, walk, hear, and follow oral and written directives. \n
            • Must also have good hand, foot, and eye coordination to operate and repair equipment and vehicles. \n
            • Must be able to perform strenuous physical activities to include, exerting up to 100 lbs. of pressure, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying heavy supplies and equipment several times a day; able to shovel, crawl, bend, kneel, and dig holes for several hours per day; climb on and off equipment; and operate vibrating equipment. \n
            • Must be able to work indoors, underground, outdoors, in confined spaces, in pipes, culverts, manholes, and trenches, on level, slippery, sloping, unstable, and muddy terrain, and under constantly noisy conditions; and work in adverse environmental conditions to include inclement weather such as rain, sleet, snow, heat, sun exposure, and hazardous conditions including mechanical, electrical, fume odor, dust/mist, chemical, and toxic waste hazards and other solid waste substances; and exposure to insects, noxious plants, and snakes. \n \n
